PALS Workshop 26th April 2013

HEaTED have engaged in discussions with Performance for All about how to provide a holistic solution for technicians' development whereby managers and practitioners could have a desktop toolkit to address issues such as:

  • Assistance with job design
  • Induction planning
  • Building career maps
  • Keeping training records
  • Identifying gaps and training needs
  • Central Development Library opportunity connections (internal provision from individual HEIs and linkage to external provision e.g. HEaTED course programme)

As a result of exploring current provision with the Science and Engineering Council's Registration processes and standards now published, HEaTED have produced a draft UK-wide framework for Technical Professionals (currently only available to workshop attendees), the first 2 elements being ‘Professional Practice’ and ‘The Student Experience’.

This is a draft first attempt to look at a holistic solution to identifying what HE Technical Professionals do, where they are (there are 5 levels) and an opportunity to consider workforce development in assessing performance as well as planning for the future in the short, medium and long term.
